How to Make Homemade Bread: Tips for Making a Great-Tasting Bread

Homemade bread is one of the easiest ways for a beginner to get into baking. The process isn’t complicated, the ingredients are usually easy to find and it doesn’t take much time either. However, there’s more to homemade bread than just throwing some dry ingredients in a bowl and hoping for the best (even though that may seem like all you need sometimes!).

How To Make Homemade Bread

The first step to making homemade bread is to get the yeast and other dry ingredients ready. This is a fairly simple process that only takes about 5 minutes, so don’t be too intimidated. Once the yeast is activated and mixed with the other dry ingredients, you can combine the mix with the liquid ingredients and get the dough ready. This is the most basic stage of homemade bread, with the yeast feeding off of the sugars in the liquids to create a dough.

Add The Yeast and Knead

Once the yeast is activated, add it to the bowl with the dry ingredients. You can use any type of yeast you like, but if you’re using fresh produce and it’s been sitting in the tap for a while, you may want to consider using a new kind of yeast. Next, knead the ingredients together with your hands until the dough comes together. You want it to be soft and slightly sticky, but not too sticky that it sticks to your hands. You can use any type of bread flour that you like, but in this recipe, we’re using white flour, but whole grain flour would work too.

Tips For Making Great Homemade Bread

This is a basic recipe, so you can make it your own.

  • Sprinkle the loaf with sea salt or add cinnamon and sugar to the outside of the bread to make it more delicious. If you love experimenting with flavors, try mixing up your own flavor combinations like butter, garlic, rosemary or sun-dried tomato!
  • The type of flour you use can make a difference in the final result. If you have a high-quality bread flour, it will add to the quality of the bread. However, if you have a cheap brand, the bread will still taste great. So, make sure that you’re using a high-quality flour.
  • You can also use gluten-free flour instead of white flour. It will result in a slightly different taste, but it’s still going to be delicious!
  • Once the bread is cooked, place it on a wire rack to cool. This allows the bread to stay slightly crunchy. If you put it on a plate or a wooden cutting board, it will become soft and soggy.
  • Your homemade bread is done when the internal temperature of the bread is between 200 and 210 Fahrenheit. If the bread is still hot, it hasn’t been cooked thoroughly. You can keep the bread in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Just remember to let it sit out for a few hours to rewarm before eating.
  • Storing the bread in a plastic bag or a container can cause it to sweat, which will ruin the bread. When making bread, you can use commercial yeast or instant yeast. The commercial yeast will take longer to rise, but it will also give off more alcohol, which is what will flavor your bread. The instant yeast, on the other hand, will rise as quickly as possible and won’t have as much flavor.

Follow these steps and your homemade bread is guaranteed to be great! It’s important to note that this is just one recipe. There are many different ways to make bread and the different recipes will yield different results. Use the one you like best and experiment with different flavors and textures to find out which one you like best.
